3rd Grade

Welcome to 3rd Grade! Our goal as a third grade team is to provide each student with challenging educational opportunities in a safe, supportive environment. We strive to promote academic growth, positive character development and creativity in each student.

Literacy instruction in third grade includes a balanced approach with students immersed daily in written and oral language, integrating all aspects of literacy, including reading, emphasizing comprehension, accuracy and fluency, building vocabulary, phonics, writing, speaking, spelling, and grammar.

Science engages the students in units that are part of the Next Generation Science Standards such as Life Cycles and Traits, Forces and Motion, Weather and Climate, and Environments and Living Things.

Students learn about communities, map skills and history of Boone County as part of their social studies instruction.

Throughout the year, third grade students cover math topics such as addition, subtraction, an introduction to multiplication and division, number sense, geometry, measurement, estimation, data interpretation and problem solving.

Technology is utilized at this grade level through a variety of resources such as 1 to 1 Chromebooks in each classroom, interactive white boards and projectors, iPads, and other equipment.
